Teaching the teachers

At the Hong Kong Institute of Education's Early Childhood Learning Centre in Tai Po, success is not measured by the ability of its graduating students.

Rather success is measured by the Centre's ability to help teachers to learn and incorporate innovative teaching practices in schools across Hong Kong.

Established with a HKD7.85 million donation from the Hongkong Bank Foundation, the Centre caters to both teacher trainees and teachers already working in the area of early childhood education.

Teachers have the opportunity to study innovative new classroom practices and work on developing child-centred curriculum. The Centre also conducts workshops to promote parent education and involvement.

The overall objective of the Centre is to change the culture of the Hong Kong classroom by equipping teachers to work towards the all-round development of children and by promoting the concept of school-family-community partnership.
