Bay Watching

In a small bay near Sai Kung in Hong Kong's New Territories, multiple school groups and members of the public will soon be able to glide across the water in a glass-bottomed boat and see firsthand the area's rich diversity of marine life.

To help promote conservation of Hong Kong's marine environment, the Foundation has joined with the Hong Kong Jockey Club to fund a marine life education centre at Hoi Ha Wan - an area which was designated one of Hong Kong's first marine parks in 1996.

The World Wide Fund For Nature Hong Kong is developing the Centre, which is being built over water. It will be connected to the shore by a walkway and will include a range of interactive displays highlighting the importance and fragile nature of Hong Kong's marine environment. Construction of the Centre began in September 2001.

The Foundation is contributing HKD14.6 million to the project, including HKD1 million for the glass-bottomed boat.

Calculator tells carbon dioxide emission

From travelling to work, lighting and heating homes to the things you buy, everyone contributes to carbon dioxide emissions. Do you know how much you 'contribute'? The Hongkong Bank Foundation donated HKD1.3 million to support the launch of Hong Kong's first carbon calculator by WWF. The calculator is an innovative online tool that helps the Hong Kong community to measure and track their contribution to climate change.
