Sex education

Have wheels, will travel

Several years ago, a survey asked students in Hong Kong where they got most of their information about sex. The answer of one anonymous respondent summed it up: "My friends and I rely heavily on the media for sex knowledge."

Young people today are naturally curious about sex. They have lots of questions but sometimes parents and teachers are reluctant to provide answers in a simple and straightforward way - or any answers at all.

With funding from the Foundation, The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong has set up a mobile sex education library to visit primary and secondary schools as well as youth centres throughout Hong Kong. The bus, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, has books, displays and computer games related to sex education and is staffed by professionals from the Association. About 125,000 people have visited the library and used its services.
