Snow dancing

It is winter in Kunming, but the cool temperatures do not stop a group of visiting students from pausing for an impromptu performance on a surface they have never danced on before: snow.

While this group of students from Hong Kong may seem somewhat out of place, they are certainly not out of step. They are students of dance at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (APA). And they - along with fellow students of music, drama and technical arts - are taking part in an exchange programme.

The programme - funded by the Hongkong Bank Foundation - is open to APA students and students from conservatories in mainland China.

Summertime schools

Each summer 80 undergraduate students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong forego part of their break from classes and head north.

Their objective: to learn more about working practices and business operations in mainland China.

Participants in the programme have a unique opportunity to gain the practical knowledge increasingly sought by employers hiring new graduates.

The programme - which receives financial assistance from the Foundation - comprises of workplace training at state enterprises and short internships at Mainland offices of multinational companies.
