Environmentally friendly materials

HSBC strives to use environmentally friendly materials in our products and services wherever possible. We also support and encourage our suppliers to adopt environmentally friendly practices to minimise our impacts on the environment.

• Garbage bags and snack bags are made by biodegradable plastic and recycled paper.
• Paper products made from environmentally friendly materials are purchased and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper, our preferred choice of sustainably produced paper, is used wherever possible.
• Printers use soy ink instead of petroleum-based ink where possible.
• Recycled toner cartridges are used and empty toner cartridges are collected for suppliers to re-manufacture.
• Takeaway lunch boxes are made by sugar cane starch.
• Takeaway plastic containers are made by sweet corn which is bio-degradable.
