Every 32 seconds another person in Hong Kong benefits from the services provided by The Community Chest of Hong Kong.
HSBC is one of the founding members of the Community Chest that was established in 1968 to raise funds for social welfare agencies in Hong Kong and has won its Top Donor award for the eleven years.
In the 2010/11 campaign year, the Bank donated some HK$9.8 million to the Community Chest. HSBC employees contribute to the Community Chest through various activities. On top of making an annual donation to the Chest, the Hongkong Bank Foundation matches funds raised by HSBC employees.
The Hongkong Bank Foundation also provides additional financial assistance beyond general contributions. In 1997, the Foundation established a special fund for the Chest which guarantees a 10% annual return - income that is used by the Chest to fund pilot projects developed by member agencies.
To acknowledge HSBC's significant contribution, the Chest named the promenade of the Murray House section of Stanley "HSBC Seafront Promenade."
HSBC is a major sponsor of Green Day 2008 for many years which encourages the public to adopt a holistic approach to environmental protection.
Walks for Millions is a good team building exercise for employees and HSBC is an active supporter for years.
