To enhance the mental and physical health of senior citizens and promote a socially inclusive community, HSBC has partnered with the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) to organise the Ageing Well Living Well programme.
Supported by the HKSAR Government, Elderly Commission, District Councils, NGOs and academic institutions, the programme aims to help 1,600 vulnerable hidden elders to reintegrate into the community; empower 135 active elderly volunteers to reach out to 2,000 youths providing life education; and raise awareness for the need and value of senior citizens.
The programme was kicked off at the Senior Citizen's Day on 15 November 2009. Officiated guests include representatives from government, HSBC, HKCSS and NGOs. About 60 HSBC volunteers helped at the event. The famous artist and singer, Aaron Kwok, also supported the programme by delivering words of encouragement to the audience via a video message.
Matthew Cheung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, HKSAR Government
"I gained lots of happiness and satisfaction when serving the elderly. It's worthwhile and you only have to contribute a small part of your leisure time. I will continue to participate in volunteer activities."
Maggie Yeung
HSBC retiree volunteer
"Volunteering as a family at the Senior Citizens Day event was an enriching and wonderful experience. Seeing elderly folks enjoy themselves made our day's work all worthwhile. All in all. a truly memorable family outing day and we look forward to participate again."
Kheng Keong Ang
HSBC Volunteer
"What senior citizens need most is love and care, instead of material comforts. Your caring can bring warmth to them and they will remember you. It is also good to participate in volunteer activities with family members which can increase my motivation."
