Induction
A series of orientation activities designed to familiarise you with the new environment and prepare you for your first projects and attachments.
Core Placements
Control Functions Specialists may indicate a preferred placement in any of our Risk, Audit or Compliance functions. This will offer a solid, single-department foundation on which to build your ongoing exposure and development.
Risk
Risk supports the Group across a wide spectrum of risk management and control activities, such as credit risk management, market risk monitoring and the calibration of risk models. Working in partnership with all of our regional customer groups to help maximise business opportunities, the division takes a 'can-do' attitude to promoting portfolio quality and balancing risk and reward so that our business can operate effectively and profitably.
Audit
Group Internal Audit plays a critical role in providing independent assurance to management and the Risk and Audit committees over the operation of our risk management, governance and internal control processes.
A placement with Group Internal Audit offers exposure to Group operations around the globe. You will work with business functions to understand the practices, systems, risks and processes associated with their business, providing a unique perspective into the key risks that challenge our organisation globally.
Compliance
Compliance plays a critical role in advising and supporting management in managing and mitigating compliance risks. The function develops internal procedures, policies and monitoring processes to assist our business in adhering to relevant standards and regulations. It also manages and resolves regulatory issues including communications with external regulators such as the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Securities and Futures Commission, and the Office of the Commission of Insurance.
Wholesale Credit and Market Risk
This team is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and management of policies, procedures and risk systems which enable the optimal identification and management of portfolio trends and risks. The team consists of three areas: Wholesale Risk, Traded Credit Risk and Market Risk.
Wholesale Risk covers the full range of wholesale counterparties including Sovereigns, Banks, Non-Bank Financial Institutions and Corporates.
Traded Credit Risk manages credit and market risks arising from Global Markets products and transactions, serving as a focal point for credit approval of new money loans, bond underwriting, IPOs and derivative/structured products.
Market Risk provides coverage of the market (or price) risk taken across the Global Banking and Markets and Insurance businesses. The area oversees market positions being taken and escalates issues when it is perceived that these positions exceed the risk appetite of the Group.
Retail Credit Risk
Our Retail Credit Risk team oversees the effective analysis, interpretation and management of credit risk that underpins our retail business strategy and influences our product offers and target customer segments. They help to achieve sustainable profitability and growth targets for retail lending products including residential mortgages, cards and other consumer or personal lending.
Key aspects of work include assisting the business in understanding potential credit risks and establishing appropriate and adequate control and credit processes to govern the risk management of retail portfolios.
Operational Risk
Our Operational Risk team provides guidance and support to ensure that Operational Risk requirements are monitored and implemented to manage risks. They prepare businesses for effective and efficient operation by providing a forward-looking view of operational risks, helping them to proactively manage these risks within acceptable levels, and embedding a strong operational risk awareness and control culture. The team also manages current and emerging risk exposures that threaten sustainable profits, Group strategy implementation and Group reputation.
Risk Audit
Our Risk Audit team is divided into four areas: Wholesale Risk Audit, Commercial Banking Audit, Retail Banking and Wealth Management Audit, and Operational Risk Audit. This team develops, maintains and discharges an appropriate and effective risk internal audit strategy based on a comprehensive understanding of how risk is originated, measured, forecast and managed. Through independent and objective assurance and consulting services, the team fosters a strong risk control ethos throughout the Group.
Global Business Lines and Functions Audit
The primary responsibility of this team is the planning, direction and management of internal audit activity covering multiple business and functional areas, including Group Functions, Global Banking and Markets, Asset Management and Private Banking, Tax and Capital Management, and Insurance and Pensions. The team directs all audit activities to culminate in an audit opinion that clearly articulates the primary risk issues, emerging themes, and future outlook, and provides management with valuable professional insight. The team also liaises with management and undertakes appropriate follow-up audit activity to verify implementation of corrective action.
Technology and Services Audit
Our Technology and Services Audit team is responsible for audit of the IT and back-office operations of the Group. They cover Software and Change Delivery Audit, IT Infrastructure and Operations Audit (including IT Security, System Resilience and Disaster Recovery), and Service Delivery Audit (including all operations, Security, Fraud, Business Contingency and Information Risk). The team also assesses Group flagship projects for enhancing business capability, customer service, efficiency and control, and provides audit reassurance with regard to control framework effectiveness in governing the development and deployment of such investments.
Compliance Advisory
Working closely with various business lines, our Compliance Advisory team provides advice and monitoring on compliance matters to ensure observance of relevant external regulatory requirements and internal policies and practices. This involves formulating policies, procedures and standards to address new regulatory requirements and compliance issues, and supporting line management in managing and containing compliance risks.
Anti-Money Laundering
This team oversees the areas of anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorist financing and compliance with sanctions. Their responsibilities include identifying and containing AML compliance risk, developing policies and procedures to address new regulatory requirements, optimising relations with regulators, implementing and managing the Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) investigation process and related risk management procedures, and the reporting of SARs to the local Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
